Danny Ocean’s team are back, and they’re tighter than ever before. When comically-named casino owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) double-crosses one of the gang, Danny (George Clooney) decides to get even and get Reuben’s money back. The team assemble in Las Vegas from all corners of the globe, for one of the simplest motives of all to understand: revenge.
Reuben (Elliott Gould) is seriously ill following the losses on his business deal, and the team all rally round him in their own unique ways, honouring what they consider the code of old Las Vegas. While the villainous Willy Bank is opening the latest in his chain of luxury hotels, hoping to receive a ‘Five Diamond’ rating, Ocean’s team have other plans. When they run into trouble, they get help from unexpected quarters, which ups the stakes, the heist haul and the vengeance.
All the players bring something unique to the story, though Matt Damon’s Linus Caldwell has some truly comic moments throughout the story, particularly with Willy Bank’s right hand woman Abigail Sponden (Ellen Barkin).
While none of the Ocean’s films have been about reality or plausibility, this instalment is full of fun and entertaining moments that will suck you in and leave you wondering where the time went. For jewellery lovers such as myself, there are some beautiful items littered throughout the film, a taste of what’s to come in Ocean’s 8.
Conclusion: Ocean’s back doing what Ocean does best!
Overall Rating: Not everyone’s cup of tea, but definitely worth a watch!
